Why your child should be enrolled in a day camp?
Consistency is one thing that children seem to crave (even if they appear to act in ways that you think contradict this!). Seriously, though, if you really examine this you will find out that to be true. For instance, if you all of a sudden start changing habits around your house you may notice that your kids will become grumpy and/or agitated.
It then makes sense that many children get into trouble during the summer because they are simply so bored. Preventing this is possible by enrolling your kid into some sort of structured day camp. Instead of going to school during the weekday your child would report to a facility where he or she could meet with children of the same age group. (Did you know: Long summer vacations are not common in many other countries. See this short history of summer vacations for some interesting background.)
These facilities are great places for your children to continue to grow and perhaps even get ahead for the next school year. Many day camps are organized differently. Not any two may be alike, and this is a good thing because you can select one that best suits your child. If you already have your children enrolled in at a pre-school or child-care facility, check to see if they offer summer programs. Since your child may already be familiar with the staff, this may be the most comfortable place to start. Otherwise, your town's chamber of commerce or recreation department can also help steer you in the right direction.
Having a wide range of skills is crucial to their success in the future
The skills your child will need as he or she grows up are completely different then what we needed. This is because the world is so rapidly changing - especially since we've become so involved in the "instant gratification" that comes with the instant nature of texts on the phone, Facebook posts, and seemingly never-ending opportunities presenting themselves to us from the internet. Foreign language skills, technology skills, and science skills will play a big role for the future jobs your child may have to compete for, these day camps then can give your child an advantage over other children.
A day camp not only gives your child consistency that he or she craves but these crucial months away from school could make a big difference to how your child performs as an adult. The naysayers may state that having such a structured life is not normal, and they are correct. That is why some free time for your child to be just a kid is crucial. It is all about the proper balance, as well who said these camps are not fun?
Nurturing interests of your children
As your child grows up he or she may discover a true passion that was introduced in a camp setting. Nurturing these interests can really help to become a true master of the activity that he or she is interested in. There are day camps for just about every form of activity; even some camps are geared towards one particular position in a sport. You could probably even find a quarterback camp if you were so interested in some of the major cities in the United States. Ok, maybe that is a stretch... (or, maybe not! We actually DID find a football camp site!)
At any rate, specialized camps exist for practically any activity. The smart businesses cater to these children, which is why you may see advertisements all over the place as school starts to come to an end. You may be surprised where your child could spend the summer. If you know your child could be helped by some sort of specialized training then asking for a business to set up a day camp would be ideal. There are numerous tutors that offer this service in their own homes, so be sure to ask about this option as well.
If you are not in a position to pay for something as specialized as a computer or sports camp, most communities offer private day camps through various child care facilities, as mentioned earlier. Begin a search on the internet, your town's chamber of commerce, or official town website for a good starting point.
Finally, ask your accountant if you may be entitled to claim child and dependent care credit for enrolling your child in a day camp (please note that this credit applies to day camps only - not overnight camps). The short video below offers a brief explanation of this.
